Antisocial Personality Disorder
A person with this PD shows a total disregard for other people. They show a lack of remorse in particular, and a lack of any feeling in general. Many people close to someone with APD may question whether they have any emotions at all. In its most extreme forms, individuals with APD are frequently involved with the law.
In order to receive an official diagnosis, this pattern of behaviour needs to have been present since adolescence. In addition, at least 3 of the following must be present:
- Failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviours, as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest.
- A pattern of lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure
- Impulsivity or failure to plan ahead.
- Irritability and aggressiveness, as shown by repeated physical fights or assaults
- Reckless disregard for the safety of self or others.
- Consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behaviour or honor financial obligations.
- Lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another person.
