10 Activites for under $20 in HRM
It feels good to get out and do things in any season. Most activities on the following list cost nothing. Have fun!
- Lace up your skates. Winter can seem like a long season. Halifax and Dartmouth have beautiful lakes and ponds. Take a friend or family members. It costs nothing. Check with HRM’s Ice Conditions line (490-3577) to make sure it is safe to skate and go!
- Swim at one of our local public beaches in summer. Choose one that is serviced by lifeguards. Never swim alone.
- Take a trip to your local library. Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, Cole Harbour, Lower Sackville and Spryfield each have at least one. There are books, magazines, videos, DVDs, CDs, newspapers, journals, and public computer access for your use and much more. Curl up in a chair by a window or read quietly at a desk. Staff will help you find things and answer questions.
- Visit the Halifax Public Gardens in summer, spring and fall, and bring some bread for the ducks. Watch out for the swans! They like to nip.
- Watch the traffic on the harbour from the boardwalk on the Halifax waterfront. Eastern Passage has a popular boardwalk, too. One loop around is 1/6 of a mile in the salt sea air.
- Walk or run the lovely trails of Point Pleasant Park in Halifax’s south end. Fall is especially beautiful in the park when the leaves turn rust, gold and brown.
- Get some friends together and play baseball, basketball, football or tennis.
- Hop on a toboggan and swoosh down one of our hills.
- Sketch one of your favourite scenes in HRM. We want to see your picture.
- Ride the ferry and let the wind blow through your hair. I like the stormy days the best! In the summer you travel through sailboats. Container ships and tugs sail all year round. We are lucky to have an ice-free, natural harbour.
